Answers:

- Which cable variant should I use?

It is recommended to use the cable variant S, to ensure correct and separate function of the "S" and "F" buttons in remote mode. If you are certain (or did test it), that your smartphone/tablet is able to present the correct behaviour with the opto-coupler version of the cable variant A, you can usse that instead if you like. The transistor version of the cable variant A is still listed only for "historical" reasons and should not be used to build a new cable.

- The cable release jack of my camera isn't a 2.5 mm audio jack. Can I make it work nevertheless?

As long as your camera comes with a cable release jack, just follow the instructions as described. Just change the plug and mind the different pinout. A very good documentation of various modern cable release plugs you may find here.

- It's not working, what might be the cause?

There are many causes for that. Please ensure that

 - everythings is soldered the right way around

 - there are no short circuits

 - ther are no cold solder joints

Unfortunately the current hardware doesn't work with those smartphones/tablets whose maximum ear phone output volume is not sufficient. There is work in progress to find an alternative for owners of such smartphones/tablets. Please stay tuned for new information on the subject.

Some camera types (especially some Canon cameras) seem to fail to be controlled by the IR remote. Here again is work in progress to find a solution. In the meantime the cable control might be an alternative to you.

- What distance can be bridged by the IR remote control?

That depends mainly on the smartphone/tablet and the IR-LEDs used. The reported distances vary from a few centimeters to several meters.

- What's the meaning of "Shutter speed not feasible" in HDR mode?

Using the infrared control in bulb mode the IR signal is send twice: once to start the exposure und a second time to stop it. The IR signal itself takes a certain length of time, so together with a gap, needed by the cameras IR receiver to distinguish two adjacent signals as separate, there is a minimum time between the two signals. Therefore, higher shutter speeds then given by this time are technically not feasible.

- My smartphone/tablet has a built-in IR sender. Can I use this with DSLR Remote?

Since version 1.7. the built-in IR sender of Samsung devices (IR Blaster) is supported by DSLR Remote. The feature should be compatible with the followig devices:

Samsung Galaxy Tab 7.0 plus
Samsung Galaxy Tab 7.7 plus
Samsung Galaxy Tab 2 7.0
Samsung Galaxy Tab 2 10.1
Samsung Galaxy Note 10.1 (confirmed)

Unfortunately, the software interface provided by Sony for the Sony Tablet S does not offer the needed features (sending arbitrary codes predefined by the app). Therefore, at the moment DSLR Remote can not make use of the built-in IR hardware of this devices.
